Both paths end with your agent writing code in your repo. The difference is what the agent starts from, and how much of the result you have to check by hand.
| Your coding agent on its own | opointo, then your agent | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the design lives | In your prompt and your screenshots | On a canvas you can see and change, sent to the agent as data |
| Navigation | Inferred from your description | Drawn by you; each arrow becomes a tab, a pushed screen or a pop-up |
| App shell | Written fresh for each app | A skeleton we tested on real devices on iOS and Android |
| Native controls | Whatever the agent picks | Apple’s own controls on iOS, Material 3 Expressive on Android |
| Blank-glass traps | Found on a phone, one at a time | Known to the tools, and flagged by check_snippet |
| Knowing it is done | The agent says so | verify_app checks the project against the design |
| Model | Your choice; a stronger model guesses better | Tested with Claude Sonnet: no top-tier model needed |
| Flexibility | Anything you can describe | What the blocks express; anything else, the agent adds afterwards |
| Cost | Your model usage | Free to design; $15 a seat a month, or $12 billed yearly, at the beta price (usually $25 and $20) to generate code |
| Toolchain | Your choice | A Mac with Xcode 26 for iOS, the Android SDK for Android |
When your agent on its own is the better choice
- The app is mostly something our blocks do not cover: a game, a camera view, a map-first app, a custom chart.
- You need a web app or a tablet layout. opointo builds phone apps for iOS and Android.
- You already have an app with its own design system. Our app shell is for new apps.
- You want to steer every line yourself, and reviewing the agent’s guesses is the part you enjoy.
When opointo is the better choice
- A new app made of ordinary screens: lists, details, forms, settings, a tab bar.
- You want it native on both platforms without learning Apple’s and Google’s design languages first.
- You would rather review a design than a diff. Changing a screen is a drag on the canvas, then one call to your agent.
- You are paying for tokens. We measured our tools at about 2% of the agent’s context on a full app build.
You do not have to choose
The lookup tools are free and need no account: your agent can ask which component to use, what props it takes, and whether the code it just wrote will render blank. Add them from the Connect your agent page and keep building your own way. When you want a whole app from a design, the App Builder is there.
You need a Mac with Xcode 26 to build the iOS app. Android needs only the Android SDK.
